Things I Help With

Anxiety can take many forms and can start to affect nearly every part of life:

  • Overthinking and worst-case scenarios
You may spend a lot of time analyzing situations or imagining what could go wrong.

  • Feeling constantly overwhelmed
Even simple tasks can start to feel like too much when your nervous system is stuck in a constant state of stress.

  • Panic attacks
Panic can feel intense, sudden, and frightening. I help clients reduce panic, and build tools to respond in a steadier way when it happens.

  • Social anxiety
You may worry about being judged, coming across badly, avoid interactions, or not leave the house.

  • Avoidance and procrastination
Anxiety often leads people to put things off and avoid situations that feel uncomfortable — even when they really need to do things.

How Anxiety Therapy Can Help

The goal is not just to talk about stress, but to help you feel more grounded and more able to handle daily life with steadiness.

Therapy may help you:

  • Notice and interrupt spirals of overthinking

  • Feel more grounded during stress or panic

  • Reduce avoidance and build confidence facing difficult situations

  • Respond to uncertainty without getting stuck in worst-case thinking

  • Understand the deeper patterns that keep anxiety active

My Approach

I draw from evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, ACT, and exposure therapy, depending on your needs. In practice, that means helping you understand your anxiety, learn tools that actually fit your life, and make steady changes over time.

My Therapy Style:

  • A calm, supportive space to slow things down
When anxiety is running high, it can be hard to think clearly or feel grounded. Therapy offers a space to pause, sort through what is happening, and feel less alone with it.

  • An approach that fits you
There is no one-size-fits-all version of anxiety. Together, we look at the patterns, stressors, and fears that are most present for you, and build an approach that feels practical and compassionate.

  • Small steps that carry into daily life
Healing usually does not happen all at once. We focus on realistic steps that help you feel more steady, more aware, and better able to respond to anxiety in everyday moments.

About Joe: Anxiety Therapist in Gainesville

Joseph Brooks with his dog Ryder at Brooks Counseling & Wellness in Gainesville, Florida

Hello, I’m Joe.

That’s me in the photo with my dog, Ryder, who brings a calming presence to just about everything.

If something on this page feels familiar, there is a good chance we may share some overlap in experience. I know what it is like to deal with anxiety and to feel stuck in your own head.

I also understand that anxiety can make opening up to someone new feel uncomfortable. My goal is to make therapy a space that feels calm, human, and low-pressure from the start.

What to Expect in the First Session

I try to make the first session feel calm, clear, and grounded, especially if starting therapy feels a little daunting.

Here’s what it usually looks like:

  1. Gently exploring what’s been going on
We talk about the stressors or moments that have been weighing on you, at whatever pace feels right.

  2. Noticing what you want from support
Together, we explore what would feel helpful and name a few areas you might want to focus on.

  3. Finding a rhythm that fits your life
We begin shaping a plan that feels realistic and accessible.

Scheduling Info

Sessions are 50 minutes long and $100 per session. You will not be charged until your session, and you can cancel or reschedule as needed.

A Gentle Invitation to Begin

Reaching out for anxiety therapy can feel like a big step, especially when you’re already feeling overwhelmed.

No pressure. Just a chance to talk through what you’ve been carrying. It generally gets easier after the first session!
